Title: this moment now
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: Amy/Rory
Word Count: 456
Rating: G
Disclaimer: I own no Who, as usual.
Warnings: none
Summary: Rory lies awake for a long time after the Doctor leaves.
A/N: Oh, look, another thing I wrote for a prompt and never got around to reposting. This must have been sitting on my computer since, like, September, since it is set immediately after the second "Pond Life" minisode. It was written for the prompt, "So, the Ponds are having marriage problems. Can I get some extremely fluffy Amy/Rory?" and is, accordingly, shameless fluff. I make no excuses. Title from Vienna Teng's "Recessional."

Everyone keeps telling me it is NO GOOD that I never finished RTD Who, and especially that I never watched any Ninth Doctor episodes.  So last night, [livejournal.com profile] light_frost and I watched "Rose" and "The End of the World."  (Since we don't live in the same state, this really means we were on GChat while we were watching them.  She had seen them before, incidentally.)

Man, I thought Ten was sad, but Nine goes and hangs out at, like, the launching of the Titanic, and his idea of an impressive vacation is taking Rose to see the world blow up.  Rose and Mickey were cute, even though they seemed like they were kind of talking past each other most of the time.  And they looked so young!  Also, weirdly, the special effects were super cheesy, but "Rose" was a much creepier episode to me than many more straightforwardly creepy episodes.  I am not sure if I am more susceptible to cheesy-scary than proper-scary, or if I am just getting more susceptible to being scared by Doctor Who in general. :P

Also in fannish news, I have been trying to get in some more library comics-reading before finals/winter break, so I just finished Robin: Year One, Batgirl: Death Wish, and Batgirl: Year One.  Which, Batgirl: Year One was amazing, and pretty much everything I would want from a comic.  The art was magical, and I really liked the story and how Babs and Dick were written.  It has a lot of mythology references, and allusions to Barbara's future as Oracle and such, and other cool stuff.  It makes me so sad that it's out of print. :(

Did everybody see that [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking moved to DreamWidth this year?  I haven't finished making my stocking yet, but I am very excited to do so.  Who all is participating?  I want to know where your stockings are. :D

Title: if you find another
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: Amy, Eleven, mentions of Rory
Word Count: 830
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: I own no Who, as usual.
Summary: Suppose it didn't mean anything.
A/N: Set between "Flesh and Stone/The Time of Angels" and "The Vampires of Venice."  Written for [livejournal.com profile] goreplz, who prompted, "Amy/Eleven, I didn't want to know who he was, or what you did, or that it didn't mean anything" as part of the days that never came ficathon.  Which was way back in October, but I am so good at procrastinating when revising or HTML are involved.  Um, I think I took the title from "Boats & Birds," by Gregory & the Hawk.

Wishing a happy belated Thanksgiving to fellow US-ians and a lovely weekend to all!  Having survived my midterms, I spent the first half of my Thanksgiving break overloading on comic books and graphic novels.  (Have I mentioned lately that I love the local library in the town where I go to school?  Because I do.)  And the library also got me the Seventh Doctor Audio "Night Thoughts," so I listened to that, and then I watched "Battlefield" today.  I meant to do a lot of writing, especially for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, over the break, but I've mostly just been catching up on sleep and fangirling things.  Which, Ace and Shou Yuing are adorable together, and if there exists fanfiction of them having sleepovers and braiding each other's hair and exploding non-critical pieces of architecture, I would be much obliged if someone would tell me where it is.  And I expect I've found most of the Ace/Hex that exists, but I would so like to be proven wrong. :)

Just for my own reference, and in case anyone cares, the comics I was reading are:

Fables: 1001 Nights of Snowfall
Batman: The Court of Owls
Nightwing: Year One
A Wrinkle in Time: The Graphic Novel
and the first two issues of Li'l Gotham

Now with a postscript, because I remembered that I have More Doctor Who Thoughts, due to the Brig being in "Battlefield": According to TARDIS Index File, Kate Stewart was born in the early 70's, so does that mean that at some point she and Ace were roughly the same age and were hanging out and comparing notes on alien invasions?  Or maybe that's what they did when they grew up? :D

Survived 3/4 exams including the weeklong abstract algebra Take-Home Exam of Doom.  Am supposed to be spending the weekend cramming for my analysis midterm, but I did a couple problems yesterday and then stayed up until 1 am reading Batman & Robin, derping on Tumblr, and watching Star Trek: TNG.  Heh.  Guess I know what I'm doing today.

ANYWAY.  Why am I here and not learning about the Mean Value Theorem...I actually don't remember.  OH!  Insta-rec.  If you would like to go back to crying about the Ponds leaving, and if you would like a story that reads like a cross between circa-S5 lyrical Eleven/Amy fic and current canon, you should read no one loves you like I love you by [livejournal.com profile] pyrodynamo.  It is excellent.

A Teen comment!ficathon

This ficathon is actually getting a lot of traffic (like 12 pages of comments at least, and lots of fills, too) despite LJ's recent lull, and so you should definitely go play!  I wrote a little fill here, which was for the prompt "amy/eleven, if you be my star, i'll be your sky," although as usual when I try to fill Amy/Eleven it has ended up being more conflicted!Amy.  But anyway, go write things, and I am going to sleep now.
ladymercury_10: (DoctorCrusherSquee)
So I watched "Remembrance of the Daleks," and basically I was, as [livejournal.com profile] shinyjenni would say, making little fists of glee the whole way through.  Oh my goodness.  I know I say it all the time, but I love this show.  Entertaining background lady scientists!  Bechdel test passing!  The Doctor, for once, managing to be less impractical about money than the companion!  Power-synth music and other 80s tropes for childhood nostalgia and great justice!  Ahem. *straightens sweater, calms down*

Via [livejournal.com profile] elisi: it appears the recent LJ modifications may not be as disastrous as they first appeared?  As summarized here, there will be some customizability, including the ability to switch off infinite scroll (thank goodness).  Also, paid accounts aren't really going away--if you have one, you'll still have one, it looks like, and if you don't have one yet, you'll be able to just buy the features you want, instead of a bundle.  If you have a paid account when that happens, it looks like you may also get some special privileges?

So that's good.  I think?  I hope.

In other news: I am very excited to get my Yuletide assignment, I don't understand permutation groups so I expect that at least one of the proofs I wrote up for my homework makes no sense (oh well), and I have once again gotten overly ambitious with the borrowing of library books and comics. (Batgirl!  Batman!  The Great Gatsby!  Wait, what?  Who thought it was a good idea to give me library cards?)

Oh!  And I started poking at the nearly-infinite Doctor Who backlog.  I started watching in 2010, so I've seen all of Moffat Who, somewhere between half and two thirds of RTD Who, and two Fourth Doctor serials.  But I read Classic and Multi-era fanfic sometimes, and I was on an Ace/Hex fanfic binge the other day, and I thought, hmm, maybe I should, you know, actually watch some Seven-era.  So I watched Ghost Light, and I didn't understand a lick of the plot, but it was fun and spooky and Seven was great.  He is much calmer than the Doctors I am used to, and also very scary when he wants to be.  And Ace!  She was actually less big and tough, somehow, than I expected her to be, but she seems like a good companion.  Although--were the TV acting guidelines different in the 80s?  It seemed a bit melodramatic to me.  But the school library had Remembrance of the Daleks, so that's on my desk, waiting and hoping for my legendarily poor TV attention span to return to it. :P
ladymercury_10: (Oswin)
Aaand once again I appear to have fallen off the planet.  I'm actually online a lot, I just don't have all that much to update about.  Anyway, things have been all right.  I survived midterms--my algebraic disaster was averted by a generous grade curve, and I managed an A on my analysis exam.  Today's adventure was that feeling when you think you're finally getting real analysis, and then you open your book and it isn't words.  Apparently my professor has an extremely subtle plan for us that involves spending two days on uniform continuity when the book cares waaaay more about set closure, compactness, and covers.  Or, at least, I hope he does, because the problem set he assigned for this week is looking pretty darn cryptic at this point. :P

And then there was Visit All The Libraries.  I had to pick up holds at the public library and the school library.  I've been reading a lot of Batman and Bat-family comics, as well as some regular books.  The last comic I read was one I actually bought as opposed to libraried, and it was the 0 issue of the new Batman and Robin.  I must admit that while I am still irritated by the New 52, it was really good.  I am currently reading To Say Nothing of the Dog, by Connie Willis.  I think some of you guys ([livejournal.com profile] eve11 for sure) told me I should read Connie Willis a long time ago and I finally took you up on it.

Also: there has been a spate of ficathons lately, so although I have posted nothing lately I have been writing.  If you are interested in this recent commentficcery, here is the linkage.  Erm, I don't know about summaries--the first two were for an autumn-themed ficathon and the other was for an Eleven/Amy ficathon, if that helps.

Amy/Rory, for the prompt footsteps in the fog, smoke on the air
Amy/Rory, for the prompt don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore
Eleven, Amy, Rory, for the prompt I didn't want to know who he was, or what you did, or that it didn't mean anything.

That concludes this update.  *end transmission*

Hello, flist!  I hope your October is off to a good start.  Mine started off with an exam grade getting raised from a D+ to a B, so that was ever so nice!  I do have more exams approaching, so I guess I'll be a little swamped by the end of the week.  But not too badly, I hope, and I expect I'll be around, lurking if not posting.

Things have been a little bit crazy in fandom-land, since Angels aired this weekend (still crying, btw, but the good kind, I think?)  I sort of posted a bunch of Whoish things all at once, so to recap:

- If you missed it and would like to read, there was domestic Amy/Rory fic, pre-finale, no spoilers
- If you saw the finale and want to hop around and have feels, I have a reaction post
- If you want to prompt/read/write Amy/Rory fic, the Amy/Rory Cheer-Up Comment-A-Thon that I am hosting with [livejournal.com profile] sarah531 is still going on!  We've got lots of prompts and have had several fills already, so you should definitely go take a peek. :)

And now, for an incomplete list of things you should GO READ NOW:

I watched on a really crappy proxy stream, and I got like five hours of sleep last night, so this is probably not super coherent.  But anyway, initial reactions!  Largely cut-and-pasted from my responses to other people's reaction posts, as that's one way to collect your thoughts....

spoilers under the cut! )
