Welcome to the Amy/Rory Cheer-Up Comment-A-Thon! Feel free to prompt, write, and/or read to your heart's content. Please note that this post is likely to contain spoilers for DW Series 7. Only spoilers for "The Angels Take Manhattan" and subsequent episodes will be explicitly marked as such.

1. Post prompts! Lots of them, but only one prompt per comment. Format prompts as follows: character(s)/ship, prompt.

2. All genres and ratings are welcome, but since this is a Ponds ficathon, prompts must feature Amy, Rory, or both. Similarly, shipping fics should involve both Amy and Rory.

3. If your prompt or your fill contains spoilers for 7x05 ("The Angels Take Manhattan") or any future episodes (including casting or filming spoilers), or if your fill contains a major character death, explicit sex, or explicit violence, please put a warning in the subject line of your comment.

4. When filling a prompt, feel free to either post directly here or link to your journal, but please put the following in the subject line of your comment: FILL, character(s)/ship, title (if any), rating, warnings

5. Please post only new fic written in response to specific prompts. Art, graphics, videos, etc. are okay, too, but please post links to those rather than embedding.

6. Leave comments to encourage the writers!

7. If you have any questions, your hosts [ profile] ladymercury_10 and [ profile] sarah531 will be happy to answer them in the first thread below!

Thanks to [ profile] calikalie and [ profile] marniemadden, from whom our rules and format were largely borrowed.  Banner by [ profile] sarah531.

Amy/Rory, the first day of the rest of their lives
From: [identity profile]
the life I live now

Rory hits his head on the way down and wakes up among the gravestones in the dark. He spends the night in the cemetery, sitting in the empty plot that will be his in fifty years. Ever since he was a child, he’s been told If you get lost, stay there so we can find you, so he shivers in the wet grass and hopes against hope. But when the sun rises, he is still alone, and after he has checked every stone in every plot and found not a single date past September 1938, he is still alone, and when his shadow grows so short he can barely see it, he knows they won’t be coming for him. He sinks down on a bench and rests his head in his hands.

God. Fifty years till he sees her again. It’s not so much. A fraction, he could say. But he doesn’t think they’re getting out of this. Even dying wouldn’t fix it. Will he just give out in front of his own eyes again, throw himself off the building again, and wake up here with the stones? He should have known that’s what a paradox was—a circuit that could throw its own switch. On and off, and on.

Rory scrubs a hand over his face. If he’s going to be doing this for the next fifty years, for who knows how long, he may as well do it somewhere else. Anywhere else. They must have a library here. Maybe he’ll read about aliens and ontological paradoxes for a few decades. You run anything enough times, you’ll find the place it breaks. Or maybe he’ll just find a place to sleep that’s not a hotel built by Stephen King’s nightmares.

As he starts to stand, he hears someone running and thinks That’s odd, who runs to see a grave? But before he can work it out, he’s been bowled onto the path and the wind has been knocked out of him and little bits of gravel are biting into his palms and Amy has a stranglehold on his neck and is shouting, “Rory, Rory, I found you, Rory Williams, say something!”

“How can you be here?” he finally manages, still breathless. “What is he doing?”

“He isn’t doing anything,” Amy says, pulling back a bit to look at him and rubbing at her eyes. He almost doesn’t believe it, but she’s sitting right on top of him, crushing him back against the gravel. “He can’t. This is it—I came. That’s all.”

“Oh, Amy, what have you done?” Rory covers his mouth. “You shouldn’t have—this isn’t what you—”

“Shut up,” she says fiercely, and another tear starts down her face. “Don’t you ever say that to me. When we jumped off that building, I thought that was the end. I did. And I jumped anyway. This is already more than I thought we’d get.”

Rory blinks hard, but it doesn’t stop him from crying. “Amy—”

“Everywhere I’ve gone you’ve come with me,” Amy says. “Did you really think I could just leave you?”

“I thought if you were coming you’d have been here already. It’s been hours. And I thought you’d come with him.” Rory stares up at her for another moment and takes a shaky breath. Then he lifts one of her legs and carefully rolls out from underneath her. As soon as he sits up, Amy grabs him and he holds onto her as tightly as he can.

“Okay,” he says, when he can finally bear to let go of her. “I guess this is it, then. What the hell do we do now?”

Amy’s eyes are puffy, but she gives him a crooked smile. “This is the first day of the rest of our lives. We do whatever the hell we want. Who do you want to be this time?”

“If we can get the money sorted, I think I would like to be someone who owns a bed.”

“Going straight for the mostly kissing, Mr. Pond?” Amy raises an eyebrow and picks a piece of gravel off his shoulder.

“I was thinking more that I spent last night in a cemetery. I did get here yesterday,” Rory laughs. “But yours is good, too.”

“I should think so.” Amy leans in and kisses him. When she pulls away, her eyes are sparkling mischievously and she snatches up his hand. “Come on, Rory. The world is waiting.”

Rory can’t help but believe her when she smiles like that. And she’s right, about all of it—she broke the circuit, and though they’re at the end of the wire, they’re not at the end of their rope. He gets to his feet and brushes the gravel from his clothes. Amy hops the fence and he follows, and together they head into town.

your hand in mine

There's no sense of movement or displacement - no feeling at all. Amy is in one place in one moment, and entirely another in the next.

She's on a quiet residential street, and aside from a couple of people walking dogs the next block down, the place is empty. She does a quick check. No statues.

Her heart is thudding in her chest, because what if she's not where Rory is, what if what if what if.

"Rory?" she yells out, loud as she can. "Rory!"

He steps out of the shadow between two houses. "Hey. I'm here."

She runs to him, flinging herself on him with such force he almost topples over. But he wraps his arms around her and they steady each other, sinking down to the ground. Amy's sobbing now, great undignified gasps of relief and devastation mixed up together. Rory's shaking too, crying quietly into her shoulder.

They break apart, just giving themselves room enough to breathe. Their foreheads touch, and Amy grips Rory's lapels tight while he holds her by the shoulders.

Rory starts to laugh, watery but real. "What the hell do we do now?"

Amy smiles. She kisses him, a dozen light presses of her lips to his face - forehead, temple, cheek, mouth.

"We go and find our happily ever after," she tells him. "Come along, Mr Pond."

the Doctor, Brian, the Doctor goes to see Brian, maybe clean out the Ponds' house. (brb, sobbing)
From: [identity profile]
A/N: So I totally went for cleaning out the house.

It’s still raining, Brian’s house is still small and neat, and Brian still looks sad. The Doctor shoves his fists into his bottomless pockets and worries some flowers with the heels of his boots. “You called me. How did you get my number?”

“I did, and months ago, I might add.” Brian appraises the weather beyond his doorstep, and zips his jumper. “I used their phone. It's pre-programmed. You’re number one.”

“Cleaning house, you mentioned.”

“They have... had a lot of oddities, is what I mean. What if I pick something up and it’s a music box from the future and I can’t turn it off? Didn’t want to get someone in and Amy’s parents couldn’t...”

“Oh, I see, yes. ‘Course I’ll help.”

Five minutes later, they materialise on the Ponds’ lawn; the usual spot. Brian has a felt-tip pen in one hand, a radio in the other, and a stubborn look on his face. “Right,” he says. “I’ve done the plants and the fridge already.”

The Doctor very nearly refuses to leave the TARDIS.

It’s not like the Ponds have left the odd engangement ring or a few half-eaten meals behind; they’ve left their entire lives. The house is still and dull and it has too many rooms, now.

The Doctor tries not to look at anything. The radio supplies an endless stream of not-really-appropriate tunes, while Brian hums along brokenly and sprinkles biological washing powder into an array of buckets.

Systematically. Efficiently. Yes. Good. Compartmentalise. Focus. He could do that, too. He was the Doctor, after all.

So, he ties his jacket around his hips and carries tiny skirts and burly jumpers and folds plates into newspaper and bins shrivelled oranges and disconnects the tv and unhangs van Gogh reproductions and rolls up carpets and coils fairy lights and puts all the mops and rakes and plastic swords in a corner and wrestles curtains and resists the urge to break absolutely everything, and when he’s done, Brian’s still scrubbing the floor.

In the lounge, they makes piles of clothes and shoes and blankets, piles of lamps and bowls, piles of books and CDs; to be given away.

The Doctor focuses only on stacking DVDs (and solving a few of the longest equations he can think of), when he happens to notice Brian sinking into a wayward chair. “Brian?”

Brian nods to the piece of paper in his hand. “‘Milk. Bread. Apples. Something for lunch’. Found it under the microwave. It’s in Rory’s hand.”

The Doctor swallows and looks back, just the once. “Brian, I understand.” Which is as far as he gets. He drops the films, quick-steps to the side, snatches his old Marshal’s hat – still on the wall – and throws it on; props are good. “Did I tell you about the time I wore this? Met a horse called Susan. Now, Susan...”

Brian isn’t listening; and he certainly isn’t asking when or where or about any other Susans.

The Doctor lobs the hat towards the clothes pile and turns every one of his non-too-few senses to the present and the future and what would be-could be-must not be. “I’m sorry, Brian,” he says, for the seventy-third time.

FILL: We call him Fred, Amy/Rory, PG

Date: 2012-10-03 11:20 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
After a week they decide to call him Fred. Amy’s “Hey you“ and Rory’s “Mr. Ood“ doesn’t seem to be doing the trick and they need a way how to address him when they try to make him stop folding their underwear into triangles. So, it’s Fred and it works and they secretly think he’s pleased to have a name.

To build up a routine is much harder. At first they alternate and stay at home watching over him. What if he would wander out on the streets? Makes a casserole out of neighbour’s cat? There were too many things to consider but eventually they decided that the Doctor isn’t coming back soon enough and Fred is more or less okay.

Without them observing them constantly Fred starts rearranging their house, Amy comes home every evening to find her things in different places, her shirts hanging and her pants folded, the little reminders from their travels on one shelf.

“Look, Fred, I really appreciate everything you do but please, don’t ever touch my knickers!” she’s fuming more often than not proving to everyone what being from Scotland means and Rory has to drag her out of the room.

He doesn’t stop though but seems to understand that chocolate keeps her in line and bakes chocolate chip muffins every time when planning to do a change. Rory tries to teach him to high five but its a lost cause.

They offer him a room, one they reserved for the Doctor, with drawers full of bowties they brought from their travels. Fred refuses and instead sleep in the closet where Amy hides all the clothes her mother keeps bringing her. It’s quite full already and when she’s looking for one particular shirt her mother wants to see, she finds out that Fred built a nest from them. It freaks her out but Rory mostly finds it funny.

He cooks and cleans and Amy and Rory suddenly have more time to go out, attend parties and watch the whole season of Homeland in one go. It’s a good life, one they’re starting to enjoy and that’s a sign for the Doctor to come back.

“I hope he wasn’t trouble,” he says with a grin that means, oh, he very much hopes he was but both Amy and Rory are too tear up to notice. Amy gives him a bag of her clothes, Rory his Roman lunchbox full of his favourite cereals. For the first time they wave at the TARDIS as they stand side to side on their back porch.

“Will you be making me lunch?” Rory turns to his wife and asks in
all seriousness. But her mind is somewhere else and she ignores him.

“Maybe we could get a puppy,” she shrugs and they enter their house. A picture of Fred hangs on the fridge under numerous birthday cards they forgot to send and bills they should really pay, they look at it sometimes, make a chicken casserole and watch Ugly Betty. Because believe or not, Fred the Ood had his favourite show too.
