Well, it took a certain amount of wrangling with odd and inexplicable technical difficulties, but I think I've finally managed it!  Here's my first podfic recording--just a wee one to start off, but a very sweet, whimsical story by [personal profile] such_heights .  Enjoy!

So I finally caved and bought a year of paid time last month, which means I have room for more icons again!  I have a couple things I'm looking for but can't find, though.  Does anyone have any good Eleven + Amy + Rory icons you don't mind sharing?  I have one, but I'm still on the lookout.  Also, remember back when there was that photoshoot of Karen Gillan, where she had her hands clasped under her chin and it was adorable?  I remember there being icons made of that shot, but I can't find any now.  Do any of you know where I could look, short of combing through the archives of [livejournal.com profile] dwicons ?  If you don't know what I'm talking about, the picture in question is here, and I suppose I could always crop it to icon size if all else fails.

In other news, I finally uploaded all the gifs I ganked from LJ and Tumblr to Photobucket, and I am unreasonably amused by watching them all loop at once.   Here is a gif, just because.

ETA: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] promethia_tenk and [livejournal.com profile] elisi I have now found several versions of the Karen icon I was looking for!

Practicing with Audacity because I'd like to do podfic and man, do I feel weird about my own voice.  It never sounds like you think it does, you know?

And then there is the issue of being an American in the Doctor Who fandom.  Would you find it weird hearing a story about English characters read with a Midwestern American accent?  Would it be even weirder if the story was in first-person POV, or if the first- or third-person POV character was male (since I am a lady)?

Do people actually listen to podfic, anyway?
ladymercury_10: (Rory and Melody)
Oh my goodness, you guys. I just read a really fantastic story.  It's about Rory having nightmares after the events of "The Doctor's Wife"--no other spoilers that I noticed--and how the Doctor makes him feel better in his own strange way.  But that doesn't really tell you much--it's about so much more than that.  It's really magical and it captures the feel of the show perfectly.   It has the Doctor being weird and kind and a little bit scary and Rory being brave and terrified and brilliant and just a good person trying his best and four-dimensional space creatures and telepathy and the TARDIS and it's absolutely fabulous.

You should go read it here at the Teaspoon.  All of you.  And then tell the author how wonderful s/he is.

It took me an obscenely long time, but I now know how to work hyperlinks in HTML.  I am now having a field day with them.

I've imported about half my fic to the AO3, where I am also ladymercury_10.  I also put a drabble up on Teaspoon that apparently I wrote a year ago and never uploaded.  I'll continue with the AO3 import...at some point--thanks to everyone who explained how to do it!

And because I'm still starry-eyed about my newfound HTML abilities, and because I joined [livejournal.com profile] docwholand (Team Dalek!) and had to make a sig tag, look at the (no doubt amateurish)  graphic I made!  The cap is from Sonic Biro and I did the editing in Picnik.

Title: awful tough lately
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: Eleven, Amy, Rory, the TARDIS
Word Count: 1995
Rating: G
Disclaimer: I own no Who, as usual.
Summary: “Is it poisoned?” Amy asks. The difficulty he has focusing on her probably means that it is, but he’s not about to tell her that.
A/N: "The Doctor gets hit by a poisoned/drugged dart" seems to be a very popular genre--I've already written one like this, but I picked up an anonymous request, so here's another one.  Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] eve11 for a quick and helpful beta.  Title comes from "I Am Not A Robot," by Marina & the Diamonds.

Title: yours to play the part
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: Eleven/River, peripheral Amy/Rory
Word Count: 1507
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: I own no Who, as usual.
Summary:  River, the Doctor, time, and space.
A/N: A very belated entry in the [livejournal.com profile] spoiler_song 2010 Holiday Fic Exchange.  My anonymous requester asked for "River/Doctor, cliché," I believe.  My apologies for the unpardonably late posting (something went wrong with the exchange posting at the comm, and I never got around to posting it myself).  I'm not sure I filled the prompt, exactly, and it's probably a bit more h/c-ish than the requester was expecting, but I'm reasonably happy with it.  No spoilers; in fact, the section with Amy and Rory is a bit odd in light of the most recent episodes.  Title taken from Regina Spektor's "One More Time With Feeling."

Here's an article on io9 comparing aspects of A Good Man Goes to War to The Dark Knight.  I thought it was pretty interesting.  (Spoilers abound, of course.)  Thoughts?

Have any of you heard of the podcast "Bridging the Rift?"  It's a Doctor Who podcast--I don't know much about it, but it seems to be reemerging after a bit of a hiatus.  The reason I've heard of it is because they recorded my story "Countable Infinities" for their latest episode.  I'm very excited!  If you're interested in checking it out, you can download the podcast for free either on iTunes or at the following link:

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas if you celebrate.  And now, onward!

I thought the DW Christmas Special was disappointing.  Not enough Amy and Rory!  But Eleven was hilarious and adorable, as always (especially when pretending to be a babysitter), and it was kind of cute that Amy and Rory were playing dress up on their honeymoon. ;)  The S6 trailer looks great--I can't wait!

In the department of Christmas presents, my dear little brother got me a sonic screwdriver, haha.  And I got a bunch of iTunes credit--any suggestions for downloads?  My favorite artist right now is Regina Spektor, but I like a lot of folky pop and alternative and some electropop.

Also, anybody play chess?  I am spectacularly awful at it, but I recently got a Chess.com account (free!) and would love to play against you lovely people.  Even better if you wanted to play a couple tutorial-type games so I could find out what I'm doing wrong, but I wouldn't expect that of anyone, of course.  They let you set your time limit and they have a chat function.  I'm Mercury_10 over there if you're interested.  :)

So, for the longest time I had been wanting a River/Eleven vid to Amanda Palmer's "Astronaut."  [livejournal.com profile] beccatoria made one for me, and it's quite lovely, and you should all go watch it!

So the math exam I was panicking about turned out to be much easier than expected...unless I did something horribly, horribly wrong and just don't know it yet.  But I think I feel good about it.

And I have some ideas for my [livejournal.com profile] spoiler_song Christmas exchange fic!

AND I met the first-year student I'm mentoring and she is delightfully nerdy and also likes Doctor Who.

I think things are going to be okay this term.
ladymercury_10: (Amy and Elev--errr)
So I finally caved and pre-ordered Doctor Who S5.  So excited!  I can't wait for it to come now!  Never mind that it will be practically finals by then.

And also finally, I got around to watching the first episode of Merlin.  It wasn't as silly as I expected, and it wasn't super exciting, but it was cute and low-key, and I think I might watch again.  I like the characters and how they banter.

ALSO, I love my house.  The other students I live with are ridiculous in the best sort of way.  :)

I am a creative writing major.  Math is my life now.  I feel this is problematic.  It is all my own fault.

You'll have to forgive me if I start speaking  in Mathematica code.  I love the math department dearly, but this is a bit of an overload.

I have no ideas for fic!  I've got some good prompts, but I'm just not writing.  Maybe some math prompts would help? (*looks pleadingly at [livejournal.com profile] eve11 *)

This is an answered card from the comment board in my school cafeteria.  It's fantastic.  I had nothing to do with it, other than the (admittedly poor) photography.

If you can't read it, it says, "Are you the Doctor?"  The reply is, "Doctor who?  Doctor Who!  I am, however, not a renegade Time Lord, and I'm not from the planet Gallifrey, sorry!"
