I hope you all had a lovely Christmas if you celebrate.  And now, onward!

I thought the DW Christmas Special was disappointing.  Not enough Amy and Rory!  But Eleven was hilarious and adorable, as always (especially when pretending to be a babysitter), and it was kind of cute that Amy and Rory were playing dress up on their honeymoon. ;)  The S6 trailer looks great--I can't wait!

In the department of Christmas presents, my dear little brother got me a sonic screwdriver, haha.  And I got a bunch of iTunes credit--any suggestions for downloads?  My favorite artist right now is Regina Spektor, but I like a lot of folky pop and alternative and some electropop.

Also, anybody play chess?  I am spectacularly awful at it, but I recently got a Chess.com account (free!) and would love to play against you lovely people.  Even better if you wanted to play a couple tutorial-type games so I could find out what I'm doing wrong, but I wouldn't expect that of anyone, of course.  They let you set your time limit and they have a chat function.  I'm Mercury_10 over there if you're interested.  :)

!!! Was there any reason besides the lack of Amy and Rory?

Ooh, Regina Spektor! Saw her twice in concert. She's looovely. :p

Mmm, the plot didn't do much for me. It seemed anti-climactic somehow. But the parts with wee bb Kazran were so cute! I don't know. I feel like I like my memories of the episode more so than I enjoyed it while watching....

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that! I had a similar experience with The Big Bang. Though the more I watched it, the more I enjoyed it. :) Maybe it's like a new album where you learn to appreciate new and different things each time you hear it.

I am starting to appreciate it more in retrospect. :) I dunno....it did have its moments.

Like everything that came out of Eleventy's mouth. I was in stitches! The dialogue in there was just perfect. And when you re-watch it, just keep an eye on Eleven's flaily hands and spins and just his body movement. You could probably put it on mute and just be entertained by his physical acting. Like that precious moment where he was distracted by the Christmas tree... I just wanted to snatch him up to cuddle him in my bed. hahaha

I agree, Eleven was in top form. I loved the part when he pretended to be a babysitter. :D

I agree with you about a disappointing lack of Amy and Rory in the Xmas special. :'(

But - that's awesome that you got a Sonic Screwdriver! One of my friends has one and our two families spent at least an hour running around the house Sonic-ing everything in sight.

As for music - I LOVE Carbon Leaf, they have a very mellow sound with beautiful lyrics. My favorite is "Life Less Ordinary" but they have lots of others. Sherwood is great, sort of a cross between Owl City and Mae. I love Nickel Creek very pretty melodies "Green and Gray" and "This Side" are my favorites by them. :)

Your icon is gorgeous.

I think I may have a Carbon Leaf song on my computer somewhere...My laptop came with some random music already downloaded. Sherwood sounds interesting. I definitely have "This Side," which is very cute. :)

I liked the Christmas Special. I didn't mind that there wasn't a lot of Amy and Rory, because I expect to see more of them when the next season starts. And it seemed more focused, concentrating on the Doctor and Kazran.

And it has space-fishies! 8-)

I do not play chess. It is too hard.

I think part of my problem was that it seemed a little too narrowly focused for me.

But yes, the fishies were cute!

I kinda felt a little disappointed myself. Maybe I expected more or something? I don't know. I think I need to see it again. I think also the commercials played a big part in feeling disapointed. I feel that they take away from the show and take away from you really being able to get into it, because as you as you do, there is that long break.

That's exactly how I felt. I also wonder if I need to see it again.

Aw, yes! Eleven is wonderful with kids... if not exactly "mature and responsible". *g*

And yay, your own sonic! :)

Haha, no, "responsibility" isn't one of his greater talents.

I was oddly dispointed by the Christmas special too. It just seemed... weirdly empty. Like there was no one for me to care about. :S I loved Eleven though. He's always awesome.

Seconding the Carbon Leaf rec. What About Everything is like my theme song. Oh! And if you like, um, I don't even know how to describe it... Newfoundland rock/folk music? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW3Wp7SH3JI&feature=related Great Big Sea is the best band ever.

Yeah! That's a good way to describe how it felt.

Hmm, that sounds interesting!

I thought the DW Christmas Special was disappointing.
But... I it was cornucopia of delight and magic and wonder! And it had fish in space and a shark pulling a carriage and A Christmas Carol and Eleventy marrying Marilyn Monroe and gorgeous singing and Michael Gambon being incredible and - and -

Still - a sonic screwdriver is awesome. (I know, my 9 year old got one and I have to try very hard not to steal it... *g*)

The underuse of Rory and Amy was definitely sad, though I otherwise enjoyed the Christmas special. I echo your excitement about the S6 trailer! I look forward to seeing what they're doing with the Utah landscape, not to mention Neil Gaiman's episode!

As for music, you should check out Girlyman! They're a folk-pop trio with absolutely gorgeous harmonies and wonderful songwriting. Here's a Doctor Who S1 vid set to their song "Hey Rose," and here's a performance of "Joyful Sign."

Also, Mumford & Sons are worth checking out. Here's an Amy/Rory vid set to [part of] "Sigh No More," and there's a music player on their website.
