Now, don't expect much--I'm back at college and taking the notoriously busy-making linear algebra.  But I'm supposed to be writing a story for [livejournal.com profile] girlsavesboyfic, and I'm not sure what I want it to be about.  The idea is you write a 700-word-plus fic in which a girl character does the saving.  I don't know if I'll have time to write anything, but I'm collecting Doctor Who-related prompts, preferably with Season 5 characters (I will make an exception for Martha, and maybe for Sarah Jane or Romana, but I'm less familiar with them in canon).

So what I'm proposing is, you have a story you want to read?  Leave me a prompt, (or two, or ten) and it might get ficced!  Maybe.  For those who don't know, I tend to write gen and h/c, and I mildly ship River/Eleven.  But just look at those as jumping off points!  Prompt whatever you like, but please avoid sexually explicit, slash, and femmeslash prompts--those are things I'm not comfortable with writing.

1. So I'm back at school now.  Renaissance lit/culture looks good--it's focused on travel and speculative fiction of the period, so it should be kind of fabulous.  Stats is going to be just fine.  Linear algebra....bah.  It's already eating my life.  I have no idea what's up with my homework.  And I need to take this class for my minor, so I guess I'll have to just muddle through and stick it out.

2. My mom bought me a copy of The Book of Common Prayer.  I know there are some Anglicans/Episcopalians on my flist--what would you say one does with such a book?  I'm quite pleased to have it, I'm just not certain what its purpose is.

3.  If you haven't seen it yet, go watch [livejournal.com profile] saywheeeee 's video Starscape.  It's a Doctor Who-themed song she wrote, sang, and put together herself, and it's gorgeous

4. I'm bored and going through autumn Doctor Who withdrawal.  So let's discuss it!  Leave me your favorite theory, your most beloved moment, your personal canon, or a rec, and let's have a Doctor Who party in the comments!

So I'm fresh off a week of reccing at [livejournal.com profile] calufrax and apparently can't stop.  Ergo, Doctor Who recs for my flist.  Here are a few of my favorite fanworks--by no means all.  If you have anything you'd like to rec back, I'd love to see it in the comments.

I just love how many of the answers to this are "the TARDIS."

Incidentally, I would be quite happy with the TARDIS as a time machine as well.

1. Anybody have strong feelings one way or the other about Merlin?  I keep seeing posts about it on LJ, and I can watch Season 1 on Netflix Instant Play, but I'm so bad at making decisions.....

2. Open letter to the universe at large: When you spell "Greek" with the "squiggly e," yes, the first time, it is cute.  After that, it's more like, "Do they not know they're spelling it 'Grssk'?"  Because sigma is, after all, equivalent to s and not to e....

3. Finally finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.  It takes a while to really get going, but it is really sweet, and the characters are most endearing.  Isola Pribby in particular is truly hilarious.  Definitely recommend it.  It's a little predictable but the characters are all so good-hearted that I could forgive it for that.

4. I go back to college next week.  Stats and linear algebra--what was I thinking?  And Renaissance lit/culture on top of that!  But it should be fun, if filled with homework.  If I disappear, assume I've been eaten alive by Mathematica....

5. I started my first [livejournal.com profile] calufrax rec week today!  I'm very excited, since there are some stories I've been wanting to share.  But a lot of what I want to rec has been recced already....although, I suppose, in a sense, that is a good thing.

6. I think I've finally found a default pic I really like.  It's a crop of a piece of a wallpaper by [livejournal.com profile] summerdisregard, and it has space and Amy Pond and I love it!

7. Doctor Who, when are you coming baaaaaack?

I'm working on making some changes to my layout and the like.  But it's still me!

Also, while I'm here, some random thoughts.

A. Why are cats so weird?  A cat bit me in the face today because it was happy I was petting it.  What is that about?!
B. I saw the Atraxi today!  Well, no, not really.  But a giant sculpture that looks like a giant eyeball and thus, the Atraxi.
C. I really want to read more fic.  I could just write it, but that would be work.  Bah.  I really like comment fic/prompt trading.  I saw something like that over at [livejournal.com profile] dwsanta  but it's pretty involved and the due date is near exam time for me.  Plus I'm signed up for a last author standing and a ficathon already.  Hmm....

So Amy and Rory remember the Doctor even in the new universe, and they remember their adventures.  But if those adventures, strictly speaking, never happened, is everything they did all season now undone?  Is the star whale still suffering?  Is the Silurian situation still unresolved?  Is there still a Krafayis wandering about in Holland?

Clearly I think about this too much.  Anybody thought their way to an answer?

Also, and I think I'm borrowing someone else's question here, In the end of Flesh and Stone, River says she'll see the Doctor again "when the Pandorica opens," which means that episode happened first in her personal timeline (maybe in a linear timeline, too, I don't know).  So how are there still cracks in time all over that spaceship?  And if this is just another thing that will be erased when the universe restarts, isn't that awfully weird from the perspective of River's travels?

A/N: I thought this wanted to be a longer story, but now I'm not so sure.  I kind of like it standing alone, but I can also see adding more parts.  Hmm....

So I think Doctor Who is taking over my life.  Just saying....

I watched the Ruby in the Smoke today, because how could I not?  It has Rose and the Doct--err, I mean Billie Piper and Matt Smith.  Mostly Matt Smith, if I'm being honest, because I love the Eleventh Doctor so much.  I've already seen the other Sally Lockhart special with them in it--Shadow in the North--and while it wasn't great, it was reasonably diverting, and, as aforementioned, is full of Who actors, including the actress who plays Martha Jones' mum.

So Ruby in the Smoke was kind of confusing, but it was actually pretty interesting.  And there's this adorable little girl whom they have to protect from her evil employer, and there are some fun bits of her running around with Matt Smith's character.  Oh my goodness.  Is there anything the man's been in where he WASN'T wonderful with children?  I was ready to love it to pieces just for that, but then the little girl gets kidnapped, and they have to try to save her, and she gets kidnapped and disappears.  Disappears!  And at the end of the movie, SHE IS STILL GONE.  They're like, oh, don't worry, we will find Adelaide.  But I've seen the next movie, and she never gets found!  They just forget about her.  I don't know if this is the fault of the books from which the specials were adapted, or sloppy writing, or what, but it was really irritating, especially since I was more interested in what happened to the little girl than the main character.  *sigh*

It's so weird having a biological clock, and having it just go crazy whenever you see a guy who's good with kids, which is something several other people on lj have been noticing about Matt Smith.   Ahahaha.

odd dream

So last night I dreamed I was in Amy and Rory's wedding.  Actually, a large portion of my family was, including my aunts and uncles and cousins who live in India.  People kept having to go do things, which was delaying the ceremony.  Which perhaps makes sense, given that in India being late to a party is kind of standard procedure, at least according to my dad, and my cousins do tend to take a long time to do anything, haha.  Rory was getting upset that things kept getting put off.  I was like the flower girl or a bridesmaid; I forget if I was supposed to be related on the groom's side or the bride's, or both.  It was pretty fantastic and ridiculous, at least until my dream morphed and then it was like some unrelated hostage situation dream.  Ahahahaha.

Oh, what a long and spoiler-filled month it has been!  And what a wonderful finale was waiting at the end of it.  It made me cry, and the whole evening after I had this little ball of emotion sitting in my chest.  But a happy ending!  When I heard the rumors that Rory was coming back, I couldn’t imagine it would be in as lovely a way as this.

Happy endings don't come easily anymore. )

A/N: So this is just a little piece I wrote.  It's tiny and sort of fanfic, but almost obliquely so, and I don't really know what to do with it.  I almost wonder if I should take out the reference and just let it be a prose poem or something, but I'm afraid it might lose something without that implied story behind it.  Thoughts?
Also, no idea how to fix the font wonkiness.....le sigh.
