The series is wonderfully imaginative, with great worldbuilding and quirky characters (in a good way).
The first and second books are more obviously written "for children" than the others are, but they're still very imaginative, and introduces the world and the characters. Books three and up grow more and more complex, with plots full of twists and turns.
