drive-by update

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA FINALLY MADE IT TO INSTANT ON NETFLIX!  Now I can try it out without dealing with all the mailing and waiting, &c.  Any BSG fans, dear flist?  Thoughts?

In other news, midterms have arrived.  I have a horrendous math test this week, a stats test next week, and a paper due at the end of next week.  My English class is reading Book 2 of the Fairie Queene, and I think I like it, even though it's nearly impossible to read.  Writing a paper on it will be...interesting, to say the least.

I spent most of the day rereading my math book, so I'm going to go watch some Merlin.

is that icon from City of Death? <3

I TRIED to like BSG, but I found it really difficult to get into and boring. This may not be the show's fault, I have a tiny attention span and most of it is consumed by Doctor Who at the moment. I'm going to try again later.

I didn't make it, but I think so!

I also have a short attention span. However, I also have a history of being easily sucked into science fiction....

BSG is one of my great television loves. I don't think the miniseries is the best, but it gets great. If you're not in love by the end of season 1 you probably won't ever be. But definitely give it a go. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like it you will love it.

It also has one of my biggest OTPs *points to icon*

Oh, so is Season 1 pretty representative of the series as a whole?

[identity profile] karate0kat.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of? I mean, it's a very mythology heavy show, and it gets far more twisty and complicated as it goes on. But I think the tone of the show, the balance between darkness and humor and such, that stays pretty consistent. The characters all grow and develop, but generally its a steady, slow growth, so if you hate all of them in season 1 that's probably not going to change. Etc, etc.

Ooh, it sounds promising! Mythology and dark humor. :D

Battlestar may be my all time favorite show ever.

Agreed that if you don't love it by the end of season one, you won't love it.

OTOH, once I got past the mini series, I think I got through the first two seasons in, like, under two days? I didn't sleep.

What is this miniseries of which you speak?

It's basically just the pilot--was aired as a stand-alone two part miniseries before they ordered a full season of the show.

It's something like 3-4 hours long and they should group it with season one on Netflix since they sell it as part of the season one DVD set. The first regular episode after the miniseries is called "33." If season one starts with that, poke around Netflix for the miniseries as a stand-alone. The show won't make much sense without it, but it can be a big slow.

Oh, ok. I found it, but it's only on DVD, oddly...

That's mean of them. I ran into the same problem streaming Doctor Who on Netflix--some of the specials are missing.

I know! That happened to me too. :/

LOVE BSG!!!! :D YAY! Glad it's finally on Netflix instant. I just love that show. When I got hooked on it, I stayed up until 4 AM watching it some nights. Unhealthy? Yes. Worth it? Yes.

Good luck with all that math - the last math class I took was two years ago and I cannot say I was sorry to see it go.

Hahaha, I keep hearing that it's a show that'll keep you up late. Maybe I should save it until after midterms....

And thank you for the good wishes!

I watched the two-hour miniseries thing that introduces the proper TV show, er, if that makes sense. It kind of bored the hell out of me. *shrugs* But I encourage you to try it! Lots of people like it and it has a huge following.

Everyone keeps talking about this miniseries...does it come before the first season?

[identity profile] light-frost.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It introduces the first season, I think. Explains the plot, introduces the characters, etc. You plan on watching the remake? That's what I'm talking about. The original was made in the '70s, I think...it did not have a miniseries. Wikipedia or a fan would probably be able to explain this better than me. @_@
