I'm exactly the same. I was adamant that adamant was spelt adament yesterday, lol. But even Creative Writing students rely on Word to correct spelling. I'm also terrible at learning the technical terms for grammar (didn't know what a preposition was yesterday), but I can tell you if a sentence is correct or incorrect and whether the phrasing works.
I think part of the problem is I've started brushing off Spell Check because it complains about internet- and fandom-related words and names, as well as stylistic sentence fragments and the like. Now I don't always notice when it *does* have a legit complaint.
