memery!

Uh, LJ went nuts, I don't know what happened to the formatting here.  In any case:

Meme snagged from [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny:

Comment to this post saying "FIVE!" and I will pick five things I would like you to talk about. They might make sense or be totally random.

Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself, hopefully for the rest of eternity!

The questions [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny gave me are:

1. Irene Adler
I really liked how they put a modern spin on Irene in Series 2 of Sherlock.  I was a little skeptical at first when I heard they were making her a dominatrix, but I ended up liking her a lot.  She's very smart and snarky and she does exactly what she wants.  I know there were some potential issues with her portrayal, but I just thought she was a lot of fun.

2. What is one knitting pattern you've always wanted to try?
Hmm.  I've never done a vest or a sweater, so that might be fun.  I've also had some really fancy armwarmers in my Ravelry queue for, like, forever.

3. If you could learn a language, what is it?
Probably Hindi, since I'm half Indian.  My dad's not super nationalistic and his family all speaks English anyway, so I never learned Hindi as a kid, even though I wanted to.

4. Daleks
I just think the Daleks are a little silly and boring.  They're kind of fun in a goofy way, but I don't find them scary and they seem to pop up more often than they really need to.

5. Cats
I love cats so much, ohmygoodness you don't even know.  I really want one, but my brother is allergic and I can't really keep one in the student housing at school.

Five, please!

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2012-06-27 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly! How about:

1. Your favorite book(s).
2. Rory Williams (Pond).
3. Yarns you like to knit with.
4. A fun childhood memory.
5. Llamas.

FIVE :) Boring day is boring, and I never found Daleks scary either :)

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2012-06-27 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
1. The last movie you saw and what you thought of it.
2. Chess.
3. Your favorite song(s).
4. What you wanted to be when you grew up, when you were a kid.
5. Turtles.

[identity profile] karlamartinova.livejournal.com 2012-06-27 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Turtles made me laugh, thank you :)

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2012-06-27 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! I was debating whether or not to put them in, because it seemed too silly. :P

Memes should be silly :) And turtles is always a good answer :D

Five!

I've never done a sweater either, and feel that's my big failing as a knitter. Embroidery just gave me so much more scope in terms of design and humour and all.

Myself, I love Dalek episodes, but I don't think anything in Doctor Who has ever been very scary (none of the recurring villains, in any case). They just crack me up. I was actually reading an old children's book to my nephew, one of my very favorites from when I was a kid. I always knew the author was English but only *just* noticed that in a fancy dress parade illustration one of the kids is dressed as a Dalek.

Five! :)

I have to agree with you on the Daleks. I've never found them scary, either!

OHMYGOODNESS that is the coolest thing! Thank you for sharing it!

[identity profile] giallarhorn.livejournal.com 2012-06-27 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of my issues with Irene came about towards the ending of the episode, which kind of ruined the whole point of her character. But if we ignored that, I really liked her.

Gahh, I keep teling myself to learn how to knit and I never do.

KITTENS <3

Five me! High or low, I suppose.

I didn't even understand the end of the episode, so I didn't really have feelings about it. How did she end up kidnapped by terrorists in the first place? And when did they reveal she was working with Moriarty? Everyone says she was working with him, but I missed that part I guess....

You should learn how to knit! It's fun! :)

Hmm, how about:

1. Your favorite character from Doctor Who
2. Your very first fandom
3. Dr. Seuss
4. The best breakfast food
5. Houseplants

[identity profile] giallarhorn.livejournal.com 2012-06-28 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I think we were supposed to assume that...she was somehow kept safe by the fact she had the phone, which in turn had the contents of something that was related to the terrorists? IDK. They sort of let us assume she's been working with Moriarty when she texted him the plane, but beyond that, we don't see much indication on that front.

I want to! I just need to actually sit down and make myself learn it. And probably getting proper knitting needles would help XD

Oh. That's weird, then. Thanks for explaining it.

If you do decide to start working on it, Ravelry is a really good knitting site!
